I've got some time to kill this evening while I trudge along with my fic (going pretty well, thanks, onto Chapter Six and Fifth Year, but it's got to the difficult building of UST between R and S and I want it to be REALLY GOOD and not cliched. In a fandom as big as this, though, pretty much every idea has been done. Make that less cliched, then.)

Thus, I thought I'd do a rec-list. This is basically all the fics I have bookmarked and are in my memories. Pairings vary, as do ratings.



Hot Rec: Authors

franticbabbles: Remus/Sirius, mostly rated R and NC-17.- cannot recommend her enough. She doesn't update much, but the fics she has written are just spectacular. Her characterisation of the boys is the most compelling and affectionate I've read (she makes you fall madly in love with both Sirius and Remus), and she writes with humour and pathos. Her smut is HOT but full of heart, and the sex is imperfect and so sweet. Her account of Remus/Sirius getting together is probably my favourite (apart from shoebox_project, of course.)

In effect, she has written one long series in two parts, with one or two other fics here and there, but each fic can really stand alone. A masterlist of her fics can be found here. The first mini-arc starts with Third Year and ends with Seventh Year; the second with Patience and This One.

rosemaryandrue: Remus/Sirius principally, but with much more of a focus on MWPP and the characters of the first war. Like franticbabbles she doesn't update much, but the work she has produced is of the highest quality. She writes beautifully, both humorously and with pathos, and has real insight into characters and situations. She is equally at home with fluff and angst, and is able to grab your emotions and twist them. Her characters are fully-realised and compelling, and she has a strong grasp of literature and the context in which she writes. She also has a wide imagination that gives real depth to her writing. Her main fic arcs are recc'd below under Chaptered Fics, but some other fics can be found here.

30 Minute Ficlet, by katers007 - A humorous conversation between Tom Riddle and Dumbledore written in the diary. Wonderful characterisation of Dumbledore.

Academic Discourse, by There Goes My Gun - a series of letters between Remus Lupin and Narcissa Malfoy about Draco's schoolwork. Hilarious, and very good portrayals of the characters. Set during PoA.

NEW! Almost-October Day, by sheafrotherdon - Daft!fic (can we make that a category?) It's the first month of the boys' first year at Hogwarts, and James suspects Sirius . . . has some issues? ;). Funny and poetic and brilliantly written. Good cheering-up fic.

Envy, by king_tide - drabble, Remus Lupin. Character sketch on the theme of "Envy"; Remus as a child and his reaction to being a werewolf.

NEW! Light a Candle, by musesfool - Better to light a candle than curse the darkness. Written for sirius_loving, this is a sweet and heartbreaking account of a funeral for Sirius. Many characters make an appearance, but they are all brilliantly realised, and the atmosphere of the piece is very well done. And there is an odd feeling of hope which leaves you saddened but not broken.

On Hating Cats and Other Lies, by eudora_bragg - Remus Lupin, Sirius Black, Minerva McGonagall. Four linked ficlets, first post-OotP, 2&3 during OotP (I think, but not sure), and No 4 just after Regulus's death. Bleak, and a good portrayal of McGonagall especially.

NEW! Revolution, by quisquiliae - A character study in a drabble, this is an interesting take on the Marauders and the elements. As she says, elemental themes are slightly overdone, but this is worth a read.

The Least of These, by nopejr - 10 linked drabbles, Tom Riddle, pre-HBP. Inspired by the quote To fear love is to fear life, and those who fear life are already three parts dead., it is a character study and overview of the life of Tom Riddle. Chilling, compelling and utterly convincing.

The Smell of Freedom, by - drabble, Dudley Dursley. Clever little character sketch with a nice twist.

NEW! Twenty Random Facts About Harry Potter (As told by Sirius Black and Remus Lupin), by dramaphile - The world and his wife wrote one of these fics, but this is given an interesting twist by having it narrated by Remus and Sirius. This is sweet and funny and utterly heartwrenching.

NEW! Twenty Random Facts About Peter Pettigrew, by soberloki - Creepy and thoughtful portrait of fandom's most hated. This offers some possible motives, all convincing, and some chillingly casual cruelties. Fascinating because Peter is so ambiguous canonically.

NEW! Twenty Random Facts About Regulus Black, by rosemaryandrue - Written for 's Twenty Random Facts Challenge. Fascinating and heartbreaking insight into Regulus's life, written in a detached tone that belies the intensity of the subject matter.

Visitors, by lyras - Alice Longbottom. Achingly sad, touching insight into Alice's mind. Set post-Hogwarts. Inspired by the quote Oh! Where is my wandering boy tonight? / The boy who was bravest of all.".




Ron/Hermione

A Moste Importante Questionne, by persephone56 - fluffy little conversation, set post-Yule Ball in GoF. Brilliant Ron.

Spiders Aren't So Scary, by frenchbraider - fluffy goodness, set Seventh Year. Ron and Hermione need a bit of help getting together. Also features Harry/Ginny. Written pre-HBP.

Under the Covers, by thistlefics - Sweet getting-together fic, the summer after HBP. Hermione needs to talk to Ron, so swaps with Harry. Rated NC-17.



Charlie/Hermione

NEW! Rabbit Hole, by silvernatasha - this is technically a crossover fic (HP/Alice in Wonderland), but it works also as simple crackfic. Except it is far from simple, being very well thought out and excellently written in quite a plain, picture-book style that works incredibly well given the subject matter. Once upon a time, there was a good witch called Hermione. This is what happens when she falls down a rabbit hole.

Stolen Moments, by inell - Set in Hermione's Seventh Year, when Charlie is a teacher at Hogwarts [pre-HBP]. They carry on a clandestine relationship, even though it is against the rules. Good smut, but also good depiction of their characters. Rated R.

Wrong, by astral_angel - Charlie watches Hermione at breakfast at The Burrow, and wants what he can't have. UST to the nth degree. Rated NC-17.



Percy/Hermione

A pairing I don't really like, but The Three Ds, by silvernatasha, is far too good to pass up. Set post-Hogwarts, Hermione is teaching at the school, and has a tryst in the library with Apparition Teacher, Percy Weasley. A dirty-talking Percy also won a place in the list for this fic. Rated NC-17.



Harry/Ginny

C is for Can't, by schocolate - seven linked drabbles on the theme of Can't. Very cleverly written, with a drabble for each year at Hogwarts. Written before HBP, but you wouldn't know - the Sixth Year drabble is scarily prescient.

Concerned, by millieweasley - hilarious and sweet fic, in which Ginny is worried about Trelawney's prediction that Harry will have twelve children. Set post-Hogwarts, mentions R/Hr.

Exposition, by - "Harry can’t explain how he feels, or why he’s stealing chances to be around Ginny. Luckily, Ginny just wants him to explain why he’s an idiot." Fluffy, a bit of angst, and genuinely funny, set during Hogwarts [pre-HBP].

Hands off the Books!, by lissa_maylee - Madam Pince reminisces about the day she knew Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley would get together. I love this for its portrayal of a minor character.

Instincts, by calixa - Appearances can be misleading. Set in Harry's sixth or seventh year, and written pre-HBP. Sweet and cleverly written, with good characterisation.

Liaisons of the Kitchen Variety, by fireworkfiasco - technically a chaptered fic, but as it's in only in two parts, I thought I'd put it in here. Set post-Hogwarts (and written before HBP), Ginny returns to The Burrow after years away for Ron and Hermione's wedding (only mentioned fleetingly). She finds Harry strangely difficult to resist. Hot, very hot fic, with an unexpected ending. Rated R.

Pulse - moody and engaging fic, set just after Voldemort's defeat. Written pre-HBP.



Harry/Draco

NEW! A Lifetime of Calamities Followed By Dangerous Illnesses - Wonderfully snarky, hot fic that is funny but also intricate and well characterised. Harry gets measles, and Draco is quarantined with him. What you'd expect to ensue, ensues. A lot. A good cheering-up fic. Rated NC-17.

NEW! If I'm Your Villain, by wildestranger - Written for the the_eros_affair cheque: Harry to Draco: I promise to tie you up and untie you, this zoomed its way straight to Top H/D Fic. Not that I've read that much. But still, I love it. It's long and plotty but doesn't skimp on the sex, and the characterisation is canonical and incredibly compelling. And all written in wildestranger's beautiful style. Rated NC-17.

NEW! If You've A Ready Mind, by sarahtales - Chaptered, WIP, AU. Draco is Sorted into Ravenclaw. A textbook AU, making a reasonable change and then seeing what happens. Draco's voice is gloriously snarky, and the way in which Maya weaves in the events of the books is brilliant. A must. (Other chapters: Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, Seven)

NEW! Scruff, by moonflower_rose - This was written before HBP, so is technically AU, but it merits a place here since it isn't deliberate. Funny, smutty, and with a gorgeously snarky Draco, this is great fun to read. Rated NC-17.

NEW! With or Without You, by the5thmarauder - Rather wonderful post-war fic conducted in an interview with flashbacks. Intriguing twist at the end. Beautiful and sad. Rated R.



Lily/James

NEW! Lily and the Marauders, by jlh - Lily Evans likes lots of things. She likes her body, and she likes books, but she doesn't much care for James Potter or his friends. James and his friends—well, that's another matter altogether. James/Lily with fantasised Lily/MWPP, this is an insanely hot fic which is a lot of fun to read. And it doesn't forget Peter! Rated NC-17.



Remus/Sirius

Understandably, since it is my OTP, there are a lot of these. They are organised in chronological order, with fics in alphabetical order by title within each era.

Marauders Era

12:30, the Death of Romance, by of_evangeline - Remus and Sirius go fishing. At midnight. Features a personal favourite of mine, which is grumpy, smart-talking Remus. Also tipsy Sirius, and some revelations.

NEW! A Girl Like Me, by violet_quill - So Sirius is straight, huh? Well, if he wants a girl, Remus is bloody well going to give him a girl. Written for pornish_pixies Genderfuck Challenge, this is funny and fluffy and completely bizarre in places. It has a very original narrative voice, one who has a character and interacts with the grown-up Remus and Sirius, and although this won't be to everyone's taste, I personally like it a lot. One glaring Americanism, but it safely be ignored since the rest of the fic is glorious. A classic.

NEW! A Hidden Haunting, by rosemaryandrue - This was written for scarvesnhats, and although the whole series is to be recommended (it can be found under Chaptered Fics), this fic demands a special mention for its utterly ingenious series of pranks. It's pre-slash, so the emphasis is really on MWPP, and it is pure genius. Wonderful characterisation and an imagination that is to be envied.

Bird Calls, by kat_scratches - semi-PWP featuring wallsex and a discussion about the noises Sirius makes during sex. Funny and sweet.

Chairs and Windowsills, by cagedstardust - lovely smutty getting-together fic, including semi-public sex and a cute Remus. Rated R.

Confess and Love, by stops - Poetic, and quietly funny. Good appearance by Peter. Angst, drama, angst, romance and angst. As only the fifteen-year-old Marauders could manage. Definitions, revelations, fuck-ups, and futures.

NEW! Consistency, by seagreenish - another beautifully poetic fic, quiet and reflective and utterly amazing. seagreenish has a fantastic way with words.

NEW! Dickinson Drabble No 1658 - Hilarious ficlet written for Emily Dickinson's poem Endanger it, and the Demand (No 1658). Silly and fluffy and most enjoyable.

NEW! Dog Days of Summer, by moony - There are multiple links behind this link, because all her offerings for dogdaysofsummer should be recommended. moony writes with a measured, poetic tone that is also funny and sweet, and her characterisation is wonderful.

NEW! Edges of Summer, by seagreenish - written for dogdaysofsummer, and characteristic of the deeply poetic, moving fics that community produced. Hugely evocative, producing incredibly vivid mental images, I also love this fic because London makes an appearance, and it gives such a strong atmosphere to the piece. This is deep and complex and beautifully written. A must.

Exhale, by xylodemon - lovely smutty getting-together fic, featuring pot and lots of boytouching, and some good insights into Remus's mind. Rated NC-17.

Forbidden Games, by minnow_53 - slightly darker than the other R/S I've recc'd so far. He may groan ‘Remus’ as he comes, but that’s almost like a reflex. As soon as they have proper girlfriends, they won’t need to do this any more. Cleverly writes the uncertainty of being gay in a disapproving society, and there's some hot smut too! Rated R.

NEW! Heatstroke, by infinidim - In which Sirius has heatstroke. Lovely witty fic, fluffy without being saccharine, and written in a dry, ironic style.

NEW! I'm Away Laughing On A Fast Camel, by cynicalpirate - I wasn't sure exactly where to put this. It's technically Remus/Sirius and Hogwarts-era, but it's written in the style of Georgia Nicholson, and so could be cross-over, and could be parody. Either way, it is possibly one of the funniest things I've ever read (although it might pass you by if you haven't read Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging etc). I'd love someone unfamiliar with Louise Rennison's books to read it and let me know!

NEW! In Ways I Shouldn't, by petulantgod - A perfect example of prangst (i.e. Prank Angst). A very emotional, involving fic, beautifully written, with some good angry!sex at the end. Rated R/NC-17.

NEW! Just Desserts, by anniesj - Hilarious and hot and femmeslash... Sirius and Remus eat some chocolates intended for James, and are turned into girls. Smuttiness ensues. A rather dangerous plot device works perfectly. Rated NC-17.

Late One December Night, by klena - completely hilarious fic including a very drunk Sirius, an exasperated and smart-talking Remus, and a good attempt by Sirius to prove Remus is in fact gay. A bit of wallsex, and an interruption by McGonagall. Rated R.

NEW! Le Jour ou la Pluie Viendra, by liadlaith - A dreaded 1st person fic, blah blah blah, but PLEASE don't let that put you off, because this is a gorgeous fic. Complicated and beautiful and full of uncertainties and then romantic in a perfect, un-saccharine way. Remus has looks, James is awfully perceptive and Sirius gets sat on a lot. Rated NC-17.

NEW! Love Letters, by underlucius - Fabulous poetic ficlet written for dogdaysofsummer's last prompt, with a melancholic, end of summer tinge. It was the 31st of August, and the summer was shabby-faded...

NEW! Masked Revels, by copperbadge - This is an odd fic, full of mythology and Mayday revels. Difficult to describe, but the writing is of the highest standard, and the concept is brilliant, as is the characterisation. It has the sort of complicated plot that is not really seen in the day-to-day fics of fandom. Also features James/Lily and Snape/Narcissa. Rated R.

NEW! Midnight Anxiety, by _emeraldgreen - Adorable ficlet that perfectly captures exam-induced panic attacks. Excellent characterisation.

NEW! No. 12 In A Series, by librae - This fic is a letter written but not sent, gangly and awkward and utterly heartbreaking in its intensity. The whole thing resonates, because the feelings expressed are feelings everyone has had at one point or another. One comment was simply *crumbles*, which pretty much sums it up. A must.

On the Origins of Tingleyness, by _emeraldgreen - adorable getting-together fic, with a lovely Sirius. Also features an appearance by The Cardigan.

Perfect Time of Day, by thistlefics - quiet, haunting and incredibly moving, with a bit of boysex at the end for good measure. School is over and the future is uncertain, but a lake full of starlight and a lap full of Sirius make up for a lot, thinks Remus. Rated R.

NEW! Pins and Needles, by pre_raphaelite1 - Vair silly fic that is almost impossible to describe because it is just so random. But in a good way, honest. Basically Remus is doing something and Sirius gets the wrong end of the stick... Rated NC-17.

Remus Lupin and the Case of the Missing Argyle Sweater, by kyasuriin - argyle pr0n. Nuff said. Rated R.

NEW! Shoulders, by cynicalpirate - This is a bit of a departure for the ever-wonderful cynicalpirate, whose mission seems to be to kill me by making me laugh myself to death. This isn't funny (except for some brief flashes of dark humour), but a dark, cynical, UST-filled fic with a bastardy Sirius and an obsessed Remus.

Slackened Ties, by anniesj - HOT fic, featuring a heatwave, Prank!angst (Prangst, if you will!), ice, seductive!Sirius, and school uniform. Another fic to make you fall in love with the pups, if you haven't already. Rated NC-17.

Spoken to a Selkie in the Rain, by pre_raphaelite1 - one of my all-time faves. Features rain, mud, and rainy-muddy-sex. Also a lovely cameo by McGonagall at the end. Rated NC-17.

Stairway to Heaven, by moony - during the summer after Sixth Year, Remus and Sirius go on a trip. Sweet and engaging, featuring first-time fumblings and a fab portrayal of the boys. Rated NC-17.

Sweet Dreams, by casirafics - another smutty getting-together fic, this time featuring sleepy!Sirius, seductive!Sirus and a lovely Remus. Rated NC-17.

NEW! The Black (Satin) Sheep, by fleshdress - Beware of the dog, especially when he’s wearing black satin knickers. Basic premise being that Lily promises to go with James to Hogsmeade if Sirius wears a pair of black satin knickers for a week. And Remus has to check that he's actually wearing them. High-jinks ensues... Hot and funny and vair nice for a glum day. Rated R.

NEW! The Middle Man, by kabeyk - quite possibly one of my favourite fics in the history of ever, although it's so difficult to pin down exactly why I like it so much. I mean, it has a nicely perverted plot (Sirius fancies Remus's girlfriend and ends up fucking her with Remus's knowledge), her characterisation is compelling and her Remus is unbelievably attractive (always a plus with me), and the sex is incredibly hot, but like the best fics, no description can quite do it justice. Just read it. Rated NC-17.

NEW! The Only Map You'll Ever Need, by busaikko - Hogwarts girls rate the boys - who's in and who's out? And why is Sirius so upset? A bit of prangst, a bit of Lily, and a lot of fabness.

NEW! The Thing About Nice, by shecrows - A nice (hah!), cheerful getting-together fic, with one of the best accounts of a teenage crush I've ever read. Remus is fantastically awkward, and Sirius is also very well realised, and although the tone of voice may not be to everyone's taste, I personally like its wit and sardonicism (sp?).

NEW! The View from Here - written for scarvesnhats, a nice moment in time, with some good interraction between Remus and Sirius.

NEW! Three Consecutive Octobers, by niennah - Beautiful fic with a wonderful tone of voice, poetic and quiet. Also a very interesting way of getting R and S together.

NEW! Twenty Random Facts about Remus and Sirius, by minnow_53 - One of the many fics written about this meme, but also one of the best. Sweet and funny and ever so slightly crack-like.

Weathering the Storm, by anise_anise - Gorgeous getting-together PWP, in which Sirius has a nightmare and Remus comforts him. The portrayal of the boys is brilliant, and the darker edge is well managed so the story doesn't get wangsty. Rated NC-17.


Post-Hogwarts, Pre-Azkaban

NEW! Advice for the Momentarily Blinded, by sheafrotherdon - It's the day before Remus' nineteenth birthday, and Sirius is at an utter gift-giving loss. Sweet and funny and with a nicely predictable ending, also featuring a sweetheart of a Sirius.

August 23rd, by theenginedriver - dark-ish, starts with R and S on a mission against Voldemort, finishes with hot boysex. The battle is well-done, not at all OTT, and the sex is suitably smutty. Rated R.

NEW! Fifty Dollars for the Powder Room, by musesfool - Loosely based on Breakfast at Tiffany's, this is a dark, moody, beautifully-written fic that just captures you and holds your emotions hostage. A must. Rated NC-17.

NEW! Fireworks, by moonix - written for dogdaysofsummer (a genius of a community that, along with its sequel scarvesnhats, produced some of the best, most powerful fics I've read), this is a raw, heartbreaking ficlet with a gorgeous poetic style. Probably their last night together.

NEW! Forgive Us Our Sins, by rian219 - Another raw fic, pulsing with emotion and pain and regret, and written in a lyrical, accomplished style. Set a few days after October 31st 1981, this is a painful retrospective over the last few months of Remus and Sirius's relationship. Not quite evil!Sirius, but a very dark, harsh version of him that is horrible and compelling at the same time, and the characterisation of Remus is spot-on. One of those fics that you wish you had written. Rated R.

NEW! Forgotten, by shaggydogstail - Lovely getting-together fic written for scarvesnhats, funny and heartwarming and just wonderful.

NEW! I Am Become As Sounding Brass, by liadlaith - Remus is a jerk and Sirius is sensitive, but who can be mild-mannered in the face of abject poverty? Spiky, hugely compelling fic that is beautifully written and composed. The portrayal of Remus is not one I've seen much in fandom, but he is intriguing and fully realised, and Sirius's POV is carefully managed.

Mint, by Mrs Ron Weasley - funny and sweet getting-together fic, with a drunk Sirius, grumpy Remus, and bathtime. Very hot, and lovely characterisation. Rated NC-17.

NEW! On Love and Sirius Logic, by shaggydogstail - Rather ironic fic in that it very poetically says that Sirius doesn't need poetry. Beautifully written and full of warmth and love, with a fantastic rendition of Sirius's voice.

NEW! Our Private Universe, by busaikko - This is technically AU, in that the spiral into suspicion doesn't happen, but the AU starts where the story finishes, so I put it here. This is one of my favourite fics ever, chilling and utterly entrancing. I was caught up in the story, in the world, and felt lost when it finished. It is full of raw emotion and quiet humour, and Remus and Sirius are beautifully realised. Watch Remus, Peter said, look for evidence; but what Sirius found was something different. Christmas 1979. A must. Rated NC-17.

Peppermint Kisses, by laurificus - short and sweet. The mood is slow and sweet and there's so much love that it makes me all warm inside.

Practicality, by taffetablue - moody and poetic, with some lovely moments. On being nineteen, and falling in love. Particularly brilliant final, hesitant conversation: pins down the way people speak to a T.

NEW! Prophecy, by rosemaryandrue - Pure slapstick. Sirius confuses poetry with prophecy and is determined to discover which of the Marauders is most at risk. Funny, sweet, and beautifully written. Rated R.

The Merits of Toast (Marmalade Boysex Mix), by taffetablue and sheafrotherdon - PWP involving toast, marmalade and some hot boyloving. Rated NC-17.

NEW! This Widening Bed, by wildestranger - Short but unutterably beautiful, this is poetic and heartbreaking and a perfect example of love-writing, with not a hint of saccharinity or soppiness, but simple, heartfelt, raw emotion. Rated R.

NEW! Untitled, by liseuse - Wonderful getting-together fic which might have been written for me it's so perfect - from Sirius's POV and featuring a sexy, quietly confident Remus. Funny and sweet by turns, this manages to avoid the saccharinity of pure fluff - and the sex is awkward and fabulous. Rated NC-17.


Philosopher's Stone

NEW! New, by penknife - also written for dogdaysofsummer, for the prompt Hogwarts letters arrive. A moody, wistful ficlet on the day Remus realises that Harry will be receiving his Hogwarts letter that year, and wonders what might have been.


Prisoner of Azkaban

Peppermint, by penknife - A missing scene, when Remus looks for one of the places he went to with Sirius. Bittersweet but lovely, and written very seductively.

Signs, by ignipes - this could have been in the genfics section, because R/S is only hinted, but I think it belongs here. This is a haunting account of the night Sirius slashes the Fat Lady's portrait, and all the teachers search for him. Fills the gaps about what Remus must be feeling returning to Hogwarts, and about having to search for his best friend.

The Infamous "Hug", by _demonsblade_ - the infamous "brotherly hug", from Remus's point of view. Short but sweet.


Goblet of Fire

South Sea Bubbles, by shaggydogstail - When Sirius 'flies south' after his escape from the Ministry of Magic, he spends his days on a beach, waiting for the tropical sun to chase away the darkness of Azkaban. Remus finds him. Well paced and fably written, with very good use of italicised thoughts/subtext. And dirty-talking Remus, which I love! A must.


Order of the Phoenix

Accio Bananas!, by LupinsLittleSister - Funny missing scene, when Ginny and Hermione ask Remus to teach them how to give a blowjob. Bananas are used to demonstrate. Rated NC-17.

Bring on the Night, by rian219 - technically, this is set after Harry leaves Hogwarts, but as it was written before HBP, I thought I'd put it here. Haunting fic, rounding up Remus's life after Sirius's death and Voldemort's defeat - All Remus wants in the end is to go home. Inspired by the quote My beloved spake, and said unto me, Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away. / For lo, the winter is past, the rain is over, and gone. A must.

NEW! Sticky, by krabapple - Sirius has a problem, and he uses a Muggle invention to help. Remus isn't sure he likes the solution. During his time in Azkaban, Sirius has forgotten all his happy memories, and when they start to filter back, he leaves Post-It Notes in the place where he remembered them. A whimsical, beautiful fic which hovers between angst and fluff, combining the best of both. Perfect characterisation.


Half Blood Prince and After

Dickinson Drabble No 56, by - from a series of drabbles wrote from Emily Dickinson's poetry. This is an short, achingly sad piece about Remus mourning his friends. For Poem 56 - If I should cease to bring a Rose.

NEW! Handle With Care, by hellgirldeity - A ficlet from Sirius's POV (first person, which is sometimes a problem but should be ignored here because the fic is so good) about his relationship with Remus. Measured and poetic and with a brilliantly-sustained theme of breaking.

The More is my Unrest, by harwhon - a little vignette about Remus's sleeping habits. Beautifully written and achingly sad.


AU

NEW! The Act of Washing, by 3goodtimes - Sirius owes this to Remus, this act of cleansing. Quiet and measured and completely devastating.

The Moon's Significant Tremble, by setissma - Remus is a school teacher, Sirius is an investment banker, and they are both Muggles. They meet on a train, and things happen... Gorgeously written (and the art is great too), poetic, and charming. A lovely what-if. Rated NC-17.

NEW! The Prodigal, by midnitemaraud_r - Bring Back Black fic that deals very well with the problems of Sirius's return. Set during the Christmas of HBP, this is a fantastic fic that carefully balances the humour with the angst and the smut. All the characters are beautifully drawn, and the atmosphere is wonderful. Rated NC-17.

NEW! Though the Heavens May Fall, by shaggydogstail - a Remus/Sirius AU fic in five chapters, working on the premise Ministry Obliviators were supposed to wipe the memories of all the witnesses to Sirius Black’s ‘murder’ of Peter Pettigrew, but Remus discovers that they weren’t as thorough as they claimed. Someone remembers what really happened that day: but will anyone be willing to listen? Compelling and gripping, full of raw emotion that is beautifully described. Contains one of the most engaging OCs I've ever read.



Parody

Another Howler, by migratory - somewhat crack-like, a drabble written for the hp100 Film Quotes Challenge. Tonks receives a howler.

NEW! Cedric Diggory is Very Very Gay, by hesychasm - A Love Story Told In Screencaps. An alternate interpretation of GoF, written in a wonderful pastiche picture-book style. Hilarious.

NEW! Get Undressed, by underlucius (I believe) - Hilarious, potentially scarring parody of Be Our Guest from Beauty and the Beast. Distinctly silly. Remus and Sirius are trying to get it on, but Molly's Kitchen gets involved.

The Dead (Parrot) Wizard Sketch, by julia_fractal - a take on the famous Monty Python "Dead Parrot Sketch", involving Sirius Black and a distraught fanfic author after OotP. Brilliant.

The Drunken Kiss, by cmere - Remus/Sirius, Hogwarts era. “Yes, my very platonic friend Padfoot?” Remus returns, looking up from his very favorite book that he is constantly reading and pulling out a bit of chocolate from his pocket to sink his teeth sensuously into it, savoring the taste and smell of his most favorite, treasured food that he eats all the time, even though it is not canonical in the slightest. Very silly. Rated NC-17.

The Raid on Hogwarts - Random Death Eater Style, by underlucius - the latest installment in the wonderful "Random Death Eaters" series, in which two random death eaters have conversations at the back, and generally fuck things up. In this part, the death eaters take part in the raid on Hogwarts at the end of HBP.

Two Snapes, by sashimi_san - Canon Snape meets Fanon Snape, with hilarious results.



Fics - Chaptered Fics

Top of the list of Remus/Sirius is of course shoebox_project. An epic, completely brilliant, very very funny Marauder's Era fic that is a fandom classic. I should think there are few R/S-ers who haven't come across it, but it's worth recc-ing again.

Another, slightly less well-known but just as good, is utter_rubbish, in which Remus and Sirius send each other very funny, very smutty letters during the summer after Fifth Year. Clever mix of humour and smut and arguments. Rated R.

296 Ways to Seduce a Teacher, by _demonsblade_ - WIP, AU (link takes you to Chapter 1). Sirius is taken out of Hogwarts by his parents for being gay. Remus is a tutor hired to teach him. Humorous, hot, angsty at times, and a good example of AU.

NEW!Advent, by somewhatdeluded - Twenty-six days of pranking, studying, snogging, shopping, lovers’ spats, green lingerie, bad ideas, anonymous blowjobs, awkward plot devices, skinny dipping, naughty dreams, hot chocolate, dark arts, comfort sex, snowball fights, and, perhaps, eventually, a little bit of Christmas cheer. The holidays at Hogwarts, in the year nineteen hundred and seventy-seven. Absolutely brilliant fic, pretty fluffy at times but so funny and acute and almost painful at times that even those of you who detest fluff should read it. From Sirius's POV, featuring oblivious!Sirius, and a gorgeous, sexually-experienced Remus, and good appearances by James and Peter (who is distinctly un-stupidified in this).

A Slip of the Tongue, by llpotter - AU, darkfic, explores what would have happened if Sirius and Remus had discovered Peter was the spy. Very interesting conclusions drawn. A slip of the tongue can change everything. Whether it's for better or for worse is the question. WIP (link goes to the Prologue)

For a Walk, by pre_raphaelite1 - set during OotP, Remus takes Padfoot for a walk. Funny and heartbreaking by turns, this is a must. Complete (the link takes you to pre_raphaelite1's Writing Archive). Rated G to NC-17.

Remus Lupin's Diary, by sazzlette - WIP, loosely based on Bridget Jones's Diary, very funny and engaging. Brilliant narrative voice from Remus. Marauders Era, almost unbearable UST between him and Sirius, hopefully to be resolved in the next few entries. Rated R.

NEW! Untitled, by rosemaryandrue - This is rosemaryandrue's offering for scarvesnhats, a series of connected ficlets set in Sixth Year. Brilliantly plotted, and written beautifully, this is by turns funny and heartbreaking. rosemaryandrue shows her usual grasp of literature to give depth to the fic, and this is as insightful as ever. A must. (Link is to the final fic, since there are links to the previous chapters at the top).

NEW! Untitled, by rosemaryandrue - And this is rosemaryandrue's offering for blanketforts, set post-Hogwarts. Just as brilliantly plotted, bringing in the war and the rising suspicions, and full of little details about the running of the war effort and the Order. Fantastically characterised and a rollercoaster of emotions, this also features Alice and Frank Longbottom, Ted and Andromeda Tonks, and the full cast of Order members and Aurors, each individual carefully realised. A must. (WIP, the link takes you to the most recent post. Links to previous chapters at the top).

NEW! With Half the Flick and Twice the Magic, by sheafrotherdon and ninjajab - a WiP (link takes you to Part 1) that appears to be still unfinished (although please feel free to correct me). This is a crack!fic set in MWPP-era, about "the greatest ever prank played by the Marauders-at-large". It is brilliantly funny, complex, and with a very well thought out magical theory (something that always pushes my buttons...) Worth reading, even without the sequels. Rated R.


Harry/Draco

NEW! Quality of Mercy, by sarahtales - WIP. I've put this here because that's the direction I imagine this will go, but the pairings are still uncertain, and Maya is not revealing very much. This is The Post-HBP Fic as far as I'm concerned. It is beautifully written, cleverly plotted, and at times laugh-out-loud funny. Draco is snarky and vulnerable and brilliant, and Harry is all angsty and complex. The Weasley dynamic is also brilliantly caught. If, like me, you're rather Gryffindor-centric, this will change your perspective. Updates are few and far between, but this is well worth watching anyway. A must. (Other chapters: Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, Seven, Eight)
